Isaac Royal House Knapsack
The Isaac Royal House Knapsack is based on an original painted canvas British
knapsack in the collection of the Isaac Royal House. It has two buttoned
pockets and a center pocket accessed by a central slit. It was designed to
buckle around a soldier's blanket. It comes painted in Spanish red, or a ferric
oxide pigment, different batches of paint and different canvasses yield
different colors, so knapsacks will very slightly from the color shown on the
website. While there is little evidence for them, black straps are available.
While the Royal House knapsack doesn't have a chest strap, other original
knapsacks and some images show them. Accordingly, they are available, though
not recommended.

Benjamin Warner Knapsack
The original Benjamin Warner Knapsack survives as just the painted canvas
shell, with the remnants of an osnaburg pocket, and marks where the straps
used to be. The original has two unbuttoned pockets, one made out of osnaburg,
the other made out the canvas folded back onto the canvas shell. The exact
nature of the straps is open to some interpretation, but three straps and
buckles to close it seems to be the best arrangement that matches images of
the New Windsor Catonment. The original was made up completely with straps,
and probably sat in a warehouse like most knapsacks. It was only painted after
it was constructed, as supply records for that area show commonly. I sell
these as both a hand-stitched reproduction and as a kit.

Morier-Style Knapsack
The Morier-Style Knapsack is based on the Morier paintings of grenadiers.
It's made of calfskin with its hair still on, a leather shoulder strap with a
hand-forged buckle. It closes with a drawstring as images of these and a lot
of earlier knapsacks show.
Morier Style Knapsack: $121.63
