Products - Saddles - Nailed Covered Jennifer Saddle

This was another of the covered Jennifer saddles found after the battle of Gettysburg. While the original saddle was in terrible shape and had been field modified several times over its service life, enough pieces of the seat and nail holes remain to reconstruct it. This particular style of covered Jennifer probably was listed as a "plain Jennifer saddle" in records, but this particular saddle was probably the lower end of this catagory. The saddle seat was simply stretched over the frame, cut and nailed in place. Unfortunately, I can't do justice to the haphazard cutting and nailing of the original's seat. The construction of the saddle is very similar to 19th century wagon saddles, indicating a civilian contractor likely built the original saddle as well. Stitching the girth billet and billet safe to webbing is a common feature of civilian saddles at the time. Also typical of civilian saddlery is the use of saddlers tacks for construction and civlian brass saddle nails for embleshment. These features seem to be typical of Confederate saddle production. This particular copy is in black leather like the original, though fair leather is available and appropriate.

Saddle only: $545 (Saddle Tree will be an additional charge, at market price)
Given the difficulty and variablity in procuring accurate, mechanically sound Jennifer saddle trees, I have to list the tree cost separately. If you already have a good tree, I should be able to build with it and forgo the charge for the tree.

Saddle Accessories for use with this saddle:
Worsted Wool Circingle: $67
Worsted Wool Girth: $55
Stirrup Leathers: $83.77
Stirrups w/ Hoods $74.75
6 Baggage Straps: $98.82
